Homemade Massage Lotion

Hey you! So I’m back today to bring you a simple DIY massage lotion recipe. Who doesn’t love a good massage? Yeah I know you could easily make an appointment at a local spa, but wouldn’t it be nice to know exactly what’s being placed on your skin? I’d also feel more relaxed knowing my significant other was the one rubbing me down, not some random person. This could make for a very lovely ending to a date night *wink* *wink*.

Obviously like most recipes, you can alter this to your own liking. The Sweet Almond oil is going to help nourish the skin, but there are of course other options. I chose the Lavender because it’s a calming essential oil. I like to use this one at night when I’m getting ready for bed. I used the peppermint for the cooling effect (and the smell of course). The Eucalyptus also helps with muscle relief. You could also choose something like Geranium, which is what the original recipe I found does. Personally, I don’t like the smell of the Geranium essential oil. I’ll share the link to the original recipe below. it also happens to be the place I found the other ingredients.

I tested this out on myself a little bit and it seems like a winner to me. I haven’t tried it out on the boyfriend yet, but that’s going to be a little surprise for this upcoming weekend. We started doing these Spartan Races last year and they can be a killer. I haven’t been doing so well with them, so I’ve decided to sit the last few out. He has one coming up next weekend up in Vermont and it happens to be the weekend before my birthday, so I will of course be tagging along. The big ol’ 27 I’ll be turning. This race will take him about 7-8 hours to complete, so hello free time to me! Thankfully for him he has a friend going also. This should be a nice solution to use after this damn race.

Below is a picture of the ingredients I used. I always found it helpful to see the actual ingredients used in recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 fl. oz. Sweet Almond Oil
  • 1fl. oz. Grapeseed Oil
  • 6 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 3 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
  • 2 oz. amber glass bottle

Directions:

  • measure oils and place into bottle
  • return cap and shake well
  • to use, pour about 1 tablespoon into palm and apply to desired area to massage

Simple, right? Anyhow, let me know what you think and what other combinations you came up with. I’m always looking for more!

*Never use essential oils on the skin without mixing them with a carrier oil first
